Connecting a 650W Motor to a Golden Motor Magic Controller (Basic Setup Guide)

This guide walks through the basic steps of connecting a 650W BLDC motor to a Golden Motor Magic controller, including wiring motor leads, throttle, power, reverse, cruise control, and brake functionality. This is a demonstration configuration meant for quick testing or prototyping.

1. Motor to Controller Connection

Begin by identifying the five-way plug from the controller and the three color-coded phase wires from the motor. The connections are straightforward:

Blue (motor) to Blue (controller)

Green to Green

Yellow to Yellow

Ensure all connections are secure.

2. Supplying Power to the Controller

To supply power, connect the Golden Motor battery leads as follows:

Red (battery) to Red (controller)

Black to Black

This provides power input to the controller. Confirm a stable connection before proceeding.

3. Throttle Connection

Using a three-wire throttle:

Plug the throttle’s three-way black connector into the matching black throttle connector on the controller.

Once connected, switch the system on. When powered, twisting the throttle should activate the motor, spinning it forward by default.

4. Enabling Throttle LED Indicator

If the throttle has LED indicators that do not illuminate upon power-on, enable them by connecting:

Yellow (from throttle) to Yellow (from controller)

This powers the throttle’s LED display when the battery is switched on.

5. Adding Reverse Functionality

To configure motor reverse:

Identify the black plug marked “Reverse” coming from the controller.

Connect the two wires from the reverse button switch to this plug (polarity does not matter; the switch simply closes the circuit).

Upon switching the system on:

By default, the motor spins forward.

Pressing the reverse button causes the motor to spin in the opposite direction.

The motor operates at full speed in both forward and reverse modes.

6. Cruise Control Wiring

To set up cruise control:

Use a two-button switch.

Connect Red (controller) to Red (cruise button)

Connect Light Blue (labeled cruise, expected to be Green) to Green or matching pin

Power on the system:

Press the red button to engage cruise control while throttle is active.

Press the button again to disable cruise mode.

7. Brake Lever Integration and Regen Braking

To integrate brake levers:

Connect the brake lever wires to the purple plug on the controller (noted as blue in some kits).

The plug is labeled “Brake” for identification.

Once brake levers are connected:

When cruise control is active and a brake lever is pulled, it automatically disables the motor and disengages cruise.

Additionally, brake actuation enables regenerative braking if configured.

8. System Confirmation

Turn the power off, then on again.

Test throttle functionality in both directions using the reverse button.

Engage cruise and confirm it holds speed.

Activate brakes to confirm cruise disengagement and regen initiation.

This completes a full standard setup of a 650W motor with the Magic controller, throttle, cruise, reverse, and braking systems.
